Welcome back returning parents in addition to our new parents for the 2018 Cross Country season!
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Suzie Dimitri and my husband Mark. Our son David is a sophomore running in his second year of XC. I have been helping Coach Weaver for the past few years with the social/fundraising side of XC. I am open to any parents who want to help out this year. Please contact me if you are interested. Sjdimitri70@gmail.com or 703-869-9198.
These are the events that we help organize throughout the season; pasta dinners, fundraisers, parent socials, senior night, taking photos and the end of the year banquet.
We will be having 6 pasta dinners. 5 of those dinners will be before a Saturday meet and 1 will be before the District meet on a Tuesday.
The dinners dates are as follows:
Friday, September 7th
Friday, September 14th
Friday, September 21st
Friday, September 28th
Friday, October 12th
Tuesday, October 23rd
The pasta dinners are for all athletes (no parents) to attend regardless of whether they are running in a Saturday meet or not. These are a great way for the athletes to socialize outside of school and Cross Country and they really look forward to these each week. The dinners will usually begin at 5:30p.m. I will have Coach Weaver send out a signup genius on the Monday before indicating the address and the food items needed. For example, pasta, bread, salad, fruit or dessert. There will also be slots for snack signups. These healthy snacks will be collected and brought to the Wednesday and Saturday meets for the athletes to have before and/or after their race. You can also drop off any snack items at my house anytime if your athlete is not able to attend a meet. (42876 Sandhurst Court). The kids are hungry so the snacks are definitely appreciated each week.
Finally, on September 10th we have scheduled a Chipotle Fundraiser from 4-8:00 p.m. Please come out to support the XC team. We were able to use our money from past fundraisers to buy new uniforms this year in addition to a couple new exercise bikes. Every little bit helps.
We hope to have one more fundraiser before the end of the season. Information will be sent out later on the date and event.
Be on the lookout for a parent social/get together soon.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me regarding anything. If you would like to help out, let me know.
Because of the new website you must sign up for the new Notify Me, even if you were on the old email alerts.
Runners will be positive towards their teammates and their opponents at all times, and will be respectful of others on their team and those they compete against.
Runners will adhere to all policies of the VHSL, LCPS, and BWHS
Runners will have a physical on a VHSL form dated after May 1st of current year before they can become a member of the team.
Runners will follow every coach’s instructions or could be dismissed from team.
Runners will be at practice on time. Being late shows a lack of respect for the team and coaching staff. If you cannot be at practice on time then there is not a spot on the team for you. There is a Circuit for every time you are late - Practice is not over until Coaches have dismissed athletes (all athletes must check out with a coach when leaving)
Runners must wear a watch and have a water bottle, we will provide additional water. Runners are expected to have running shoes. We will have a shoe night during the season at Potomac River Running.
ATHLETES WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL PRACTICES AND MEETS.
Missed practices and meets will be excused for:
1. Family Emergency
Medical Appt. / Illness (please let coach know ahead of time)
All athletes are required to contact the coach in advance, athletes must directly tell the coaching staff not parents.
-Consequences: - Once the season starts (August 6th) - A combination of 3 unexcused missed practices will result in a missed meet or a combination of 6 late arrivals to practice and/ or 6 early dismissals
-1 missed meet will result in missing the next meet
Athletes wishing to run on Varsity are expected to be at all meets and follow these guidelines
We do have meets on Saturdays so do not schedule appointments for Saturday mornings or early afternoons
Please schedule college visits and doctor appointments around XC. Friday afternoons are good times for doctor appointments. Loudoun County rules requires a note from the doctor allowing the student to return to athletic competition (including practice). This includes dentist, orthodontist, and other doctors not related to a specific illness or injury.
Be SURE you know where practice is located every day. It may change if you are absent. There is no reason for “I didn't know,” or “Where is practice today?” If in doubt, contact another runner…. Call a friend! The only excuses acceptable for missing a practice or a meet are: 1) death in the family, 2) doctor's appointment, 3) very ill. NO EXCEPTIONS!
If you are absent or are going to be absent, please e-mail Coach Weaver YOURSELF. Do not have a parent call when you are out! We are trying to create an atmosphere of responsibility and respect. Each of you is expected to show these traits!
